Rumor has it that Apple will ditch the iPhone 14 mini for the iPhone 14 and Max this year. This variant offers a 6.7-inch display that we usually get on the Promax model without the premium price tag. Now, citing “supply chain sources,” a new report claims that Apple could call this variant iPhone 14 Plus instead of iPhone 14 Max. Older iPhone users will remember the iPhone 8 Plus, after which we didn’t see any variants with this manicure.

The leak comes from the Korean blog Naver (via Phone Arena), though we don’t have any official details from Apple yet. Many critics of Apple, including Bloomberg, have highlighted the development of an affordable iPhone with a 6.7-inch screen.

In terms of details, the iPhone 14 Plus or iPhone 14 Max have an Apple A15 Bionic chipset instead of an A16 SoC. The previous iPhone 13 powered the lineup, including two Pro models. However, we expect a better processor with the latest iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus/Max with more GPU or core performance.

Also, the regular iPhone 14 variants get the same flat edge design with branding on the front panel. The same dual rear camera setup is on the rear panel. We can expect Apple to add a relatively large battery to offer a better life.

We’ve covered that Apple could lose the iPhone 14 mini this year for three main reasons. First of all, the data shows that iPhone mini models have not reached their sales targets since their introduction (iPhone 12 series in 2020). For example, the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max have all performed well in sales, while the iPhone 13 Mini barely has a market share in the United States. In addition, Apple is likely to focus on the next-generation model of the iPhone SE after stopping the ‘Money Project’.
