Instagram Fined for Mishandling Children’s Data 

 Meta fined record €400m for mishandling underage Instagram user data in Ireland. Instagram is fined 5 million euros for the company that breached European data laws regarding children’s accounts.

Ireland’s Data Protection Commission said a 2-year investigation found Instagram breached Europe’s data laws. In Ireland, users from 13 to 17 can make business accounts on Instagram. We can also view the phone numbers and email addresses of users on these accounts. In early September 2021, Meta was fined €225 million for violating data laws.

On the other hand, a Meta spokesperson said the investigation was related to the app’s old settings, which were updated a year ago. Since then, it has introduced several new features to protect young people and their data.
