Pakistan Manufactured 14.08 Million Mobile Phones & Import 1.14 Million in Six Months

According to The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA), local manufacturing plants assembled 14.08 million mobile phones in six months of 2022, from January to June, and commercially imported mobile phones are 1.14 million. Local manufacturing plants produced/assembled 1.67 million mobile phones in June 2022.

Locally Assembled Mobile phones Contain

The 14.08 million locally produced/assembled mobile phones include 8.06 million 2G and 6.02 million smartphones. Besides this, according to PTA’s data, 54 percent are smartphones, and 46 percent are 2G Pakistani networks. Mobile phones manufactured by private plants were 24.66 million in 2021, up to 13.05 million in 2020. In PTA data, mobile phones’ commercial imports are at 10.26 million in 2021, contrasted to 24.51 million in 2020.

Import Rises with Rising of Production

With the rise of domestic mobile phone production in Pakistan, also the import rises. The country’s total telecommunications imports during the period under review, the year 2021-22, increased by 3.52% to $2,684 million from $2,593 million in July-June 2020-21 during the period corresponding to the previous period, telecommunications imports grew by 3.52%, from $2,593 million in July-June 2020-21 to $2,684 million during last year.

According to PTA data, In June 2022, domestic plants produced 1.67 million mobile phones, and local manufacturing made 24.66 million mobile phones in 2021, higher from 13.05 million in 2020, a rise of 88 percent. Commercial imports were 10.26 million in 2021 and 24.51 million in 2020.

According to PBS data, month by month, Pakistan’s mobile phone imports decreased by 76.52% in June 2022 to US$32.221 million compared to US$137.213 million imported in May 2022.
